A Commitment to Service
For over 75 years the First baptist Church of Commerce has been committed to serving and loving the people of the Great City of Commerce. We have accomplished this through our dedication and deep love for our God and Saviour Jesus Christ. We love because God first loved us. Our desire is to spread and share that love with those in our community and surrounding areas, as well as around the world. This can only be accomplished by sacrificial giving of ourselves in the service of God for others.
Our goal with God’s help is to reach everybody with the Good News of Jesus Christ and to minister to the needs of others. The broken, the discarded, the forgotten, the mistreated, the lonely, the young, old, successful, professional, the business person, from the home owner as well as to those that are experiencing homelessness, whether you come from a two-parent home or a home that’s been broken by sin and selfishness, we want to share with you the love and restoring power of God through His Son Jesus Christ. There is Hope.
As we begin a new chapter in the life and ministry of the First Baptist Church of Commerce, I encourage you to go forward with us as we continue to keeping doing what we’ve been doing for over 75 years: Loving God, Loving People, and Loving our Community.
That the world may know. John 14:31
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16 .
What We Believe.
We believe in one God, eternal, self existent, and immutable. One God of one nature, one substance, who manifested Himself to man in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
These three are one and all deserving of the same adoration and worship, confidence, and titles; they are equal and they are one God. ( John 1:27-33, Matt. 28:19, 2 Cor. 13:14, John 14:16, Eph. 2:18, 1 Peter 1:22)
We Believe that God is a sovereign God; He is Omnipotent, Omnipresent, and Immutable. the Bible does not intend to prove God’s existence or His nature. It states the face that He is the living God, Eternal King, as Jeremiah 10:10 “But the Lord is the true God, He is the living God, and an Everlasting King…” The foolish that denies God is not an atheist, his denial is of an ethical order: For he lives as if God did not exists or judges men. Psalms 14:1 “The fool hath said in his heart, there is no God. They are corrupt, they have done ab works, there is non that doth good.”
The miracles and powerful acts of God are to prove or demonstrate His existence, but to affirm confidence and to stimulate praise. (Psalms 8:1-9; 19:1; Isaish 44:25-31; Joshua 3:10) God is powerful and He exercises His domain as Lord, Master and owner of his people and of all the universe. (Psalm 24:8-10; Jeremiah 32:17-18)
His power has been eminently manifested through the resurrection of Christ. (1Corinthians 6:14; Ephesians 1:19-20.)
There is notable unity throughout the scriptures in the affirmation of one only God, Spiritual, Holy; one God, Judge, and Redeemer. the Bible from the beginning affirms the abundance and riches of God and the New Testament amplifies the declaration of Eternity of the Holy Spirit. One only God is sovereign, He is Omnipotent, Omnipresent, Immutable. (Psalm 139:7-8)
Doctrine of Christ
We believe in Jesus Christ as the one and only Savior of man (John 1:1). He was born of the Virgin Mary without the agency of a human father (Luke 1:31-35). That he was sinless in his life (Hebrews 4:15), that he died for our sins according to the scriptures for all who believe.(1Corinthians 15:3) The blood of Jesus Christ cleans us from all sins. He rose body bodily from the grave, that He ascended to the right hand of the Father to make intercession for His own: and that He personally and visibly will return to the earth in power and glory. First Baptist Church of Commerce believe that Christ is one hundred percent God and one hundred percent human. ( Phil 2:5-8)
